Resolutions? Nah, I am all about goals! The new year is a great time to think about what you want to accomplish over the next year. I also like monthly goal-setting (here are some goals from previous months – April, July, August, November, December).
For 2016 I have set a few goals for myself in the personal and professional realms.
2016 Goals – Personal
- Run another half marathon
I am already signed up! April 3rd I will be running my 2nd half marathon. I ran the first back in 2014 and trained like a maniac and ended up having a great run through about 11 miles then BONKED hard in the last 2 miles. I would love to avoid this in April but my main goal is to just show up and finish.
Training will be interested this time around because it will be throughout the New England winter. I also have two work trips and a fun friend trip planned during this time so training will be a little looser than last time. I will also be running alone unless I can convince some sucker to join me.
Stretch goal – Beat my previous time of 2:16:10
- Hike another 4,000 footer
This year I want to hike another 4,000 footer (hiked my first last summer) by the end of summer or in early fall because I love hiking and conquering a mountain this size is quite challenging. SL and I love hiking but since the closest big mountains are about 2 – 2.5 hours away, we have to plan our hiking trips. Free weekends weren’t readily available in 2015 but 2016 is looking up and I am hoping to conquer another long-ish hike (and a bunch of shorter ones too!)
Stretch goal – Hike two 4,000 footers!
- Pay off my car and my smallest student loan
I am so close on my car…soooo close and if I can get it paid off by June I will have an extra $400 a month to put towards my student loans!
Currently, I have 4 student loans, one for each year I was in college. The one with the lowest amount owed happens to also be the one with the highest interest. If I can successfully pay off my car by June and put the extra money towards the loan along with the money I am already putting towards it, I can pay it off by December.
Stretch goal – Have both paid off by October
2016 Goals – Professional
- Increase my income by 10%
I am all about working because you love it but I am more about working and making money. From the time I graduated college and was quickly thrown into the real world, I have been hustling. Until recently, I have always had two jobs because I love making money.
Here are a few ways I think I can make my bank account a bit more flush:
- Make more money at my full-time job. I’m talking about talking to my boss about a raise and hopefully qualifying for a bonus.
- Teach fitness classes.
- Personal train.
- Teach marketing classes.
I am working on each of these 4 things and I think if at least two of them work out, I can hit my goal.
Stretch goal – Dare I say make 12% more??
- Take a course
I don’t know exactly what it will be in or whether it will be in class or online. I would love it to be something either in the marketing/creative realm or in the fitness/nutrition realm.
Stretch goal – Take a class in both realms mentioned above
I’m looking forward to this year and am excited to absolutely crush my goals!
