Saturday morning myself, SL and a few friends rallied together to run the Chase the Gorilla Down Argilla 5k race in our town. I talked about it a little in yesterday’s post.
I’ve run this race 5 times in the past (!!!)
I looked up all of my results on coolrunning.com just for fun
- 2009 – 26:04 (8:25 min/mile)
- 2010 – 28:30 (9:12 min/mile)
- 2012 – 28:22 (9:14 min/mile)
- 2013 – 28:37 (9:14 min/mile)
- 2014 – 25:12 (8:07 min/mile – PR!)
2016 Chase the Gorilla Down Argilla 5k Race Recap
Spoiler alert: I didn’t PR but I did come damn close. This was my second fasted 5k ever!!
SL wouldn’t make a normal face so I am just posting his weird one. That will teach him a lesson. The race started right on time and although I did not go out trying to PR, I knew I could be close if I pushed.
Mile 1 – 8:03
The first mile felt great even with my quick (for me) pace. It was mostly running straight down one road which really isn’t my jam so I was happy hear my pace from the RunKeeper app at the first mile marker.
Mile 2 – 8:11
This mile felt like my slowest mile. I am not sure why but I struggled. The course is super flat so I know there weren’t any hills here. I wish I had pushed a little harder here (like out of my comfort zone) and maybe I would have hit that PR. Oh well.
Mile 3 – 8:10
This mile has like 465 left and right turns which meant it went by really quickly for me. I stayed fairly consistent with mile 2 time wise but this mile felt a lot better.
Last 0.10 miles – 8:12
Total Time (according to my chip) – 25:20 // 8:10 min/mile
I missed my PR by 8 seconds. It was a little bit of a bummer but I felt like I had a great race so I didn’t let it get to me. Actually quite the opposite – I was really proud of myself for running so well at my first 5k of the year.
Of the 342 finishers, I came in 99th. Not sure why this excites me so much. I think I just like the idea of coming in the top 100! I was also 13th out of 58 in my age group. Percentage-wise I finished better in my age group than in the whole race which is shocking.
I don’t exactly know what I will be running next but I do plan on going to Run Club this weekend and working on my speed and endurance.
Have a great Tuesday my friends!
