Happy Labor Day! After publishing this post, I’m off to the beach to soak in what is left of summer. There is nothing better than a long weekend that doesn’t fly by too quickly which is how I am feeling about this Labor Day weekend.
Labor Day Weekend 2017
Friday, after work, we built a shed. No big deal.
After shed-building, SL made us dinner and my life was made. We spent the rest of the evening on the couch with the good TV and a yummy bottle of wine.
This Saturday was one of my favorite days because it involved two things – hiking and pizza. SL and I set out for Mt. Major around 8:00 am and were at the trailhead by 9:30 am. The place was packed and for good reason. It’s a holiday weekend and the weather was perfect for hiking.
We made it to the top in about 45 minutes and stayed up there taking in the views for another 30 minutes.
I love hiking Mt. Major for a few reasons:
1️⃣ It’s short
2️⃣ It has its challenging spots
3️⃣ We got engaged at Mt. Major so it will always have a special spot in my heart 💗
After the hike, we made our way home and cleaned up the house a bit in time for SL’s Fantasy Football league to invade our house. I made myself a little post-hike tuna wrap while cleaning with Safe Catch tuna and Nuco coconut wraps (both from Thrive Market).
Saturday night was draft night and I was more than happy to order and pick up pizza and sequester myself in the bedroom.
There is nothing like picking up 12 pizzas from the local pizza place!
Insider tip: Order 2 pizzas for yourself with different sets of toppings and eat half of each. Not only can you justify your topping indecisiveness but you will also have plenty of leftovers. You’re welcome!
While eating my pizza, I started watching The Affair on Showtime. I’m only 3 episodes in but I like it so far.
Sunday started with Run Club, as usual. We have 6.5 miles on our training schedule and I was looking forward to pounding the pavement for an hour or so.
The weather was perfect for running – cool, not windy and not yet raining.
🔹 Mile 1 – 8:53 min/mile
🔹 Mile 2 – 8:57 min/mile
🔹 Mile 3 – 8:52 min/mile
🔹 Mile 4 – 8:56 min/mile
🔹 Mile 5 – 9:44 min/mile (WTF?!?!?!)
🔹 Mile 6 – 9:19 min/mile
🔹 Last .54 mile – 9:39 min/mile
I had no idea I slowed down that much in mile 5 until I looked at my splits post-run. Yes, this was a boring stretch of the run but that’s a huge slowdown, even for me!
No need to dwell on it. Moving on.
I came home, made and ate breakfast and went grocery shopping and did a little meal prep. The weather was awful and I easily could have snuggled up on the couch for the rest of the day.
After a day of laziness, SL and I had dinner and played pool with some friends up in Newburyport.
I got after it and had the fried chicken which was beyond delicious and worth every fat-filled calorie!
After eating, we played 7 games of pool. It came down to the wire but in the end, SL and I came up short and only won 3 of the 7 games.
We got home around 11:00 pm and I went right to bed. This old lady isn’t used to being out late anymore!
