Good morning and happy MLK day! Lucky for me, I have the day off from work and am enjoying a much needed 3-day weekend.
Today started with a cycle class and Core, Buns + Guns class. Oof. Back to back classes kicked my ass! According to my Apple watch, I burned 542 calories between the two classes. Needless to say, I was starving by the time I got home.
Ok, enough about today – let’s talk about what happened over the weekend!
Once I got home from work, I cooked a Blue Apron meal that wasn’t my favorite. It had fennel which I I found out I don’t like. Oh well, at least now I know. Then SL and I watched Straight Outta Compton which I enjoyed more than I thought I would.
This Saturday was for sleeping in. Neither SL nor I had anything to get up for so we took advantage. I eventually got up and made breakfast – an egg white scramble with mushrooms, butternut squash, onions and arugula.
I had a couple slices of unpictured bacon as well 😋
After letting my late breakfast settle, it was time to workout. I did another tough basement workout which I will share later this week.
Later in the afternoon, SL and I met a bunch of friends at a Christmas tree bonfire. There were 100s of trees piled up and ready to burn.
There were also 100s of people there ready to watch. I couldn’t have been happier when the tree pile went up in flames because it was COLD out. I was bundled up in all of my winter gear but it was still chilly until the fire really got going.
We watched the fire for about an hour then grabbed some dinner before heading home to watch the Patriots game.
Another WIN for the Pats and we are moving on to the AFC Championship!
Started with a trip to the grocery store to buy all of the things to prep for the week, including:
- Spaghetti squash
- Chia seed pudding
- Healthy almond butter cookies
- Zoodles, chopped veggies
After chores, SL and I went for a beautiful seaside walk.
It was absolutely freezing out but it felt good to get fresh air.
After our walk, SL and I settled in for the night, ate dinner and watched a couple football games before going to bed. It was such a perfect weekend and knowing I didn’t have to go today made everything better!
Weekly Workouts (last week)
Monday: A crazy sweaty basement gym workout
800 m run – 21 one-legged deadlifts (each side) – 21 burpees – 21 lying leg lifts
800m – 18 – 18 – 18
800m – 15 – 15 – 15
800m – 12 – 12 – 12
800m – 9 – 9 – 9
Tuesday: Yoga (this was a strugglefest after Monday’s workout)
Wednesday: 45-minute cycle
Thursday: Core, Buns + Guns
Friday: 30-minute cycle (my legs were not feeling it after CB+G the night before) + a 1 mile lunchtime walk
Saturday: Another basement gym workout
20 deadlifts – 400m run
20 kettlebell swings – 400m run
10 weighted squats/10 bicep curls – 400m run
10 burpees/10 hammer curls – 400m run
Repeat – I finished in 30 minutes
Sunday: Seaside walk with SL
On deck this week – Yoga, cycle and probably more basement workouts. Nothing out of the ordinary.
This Week’s Menu
Last week’s menu went to hell when I got a Blue Apron delivery that I forgot about. Luckily, I was able to shift things around and we were good to go!
Monday: Curry (I’m obsessed…) served over a mix of zoodles + kelp noodles
Tuesday: Spaghetti squash with marinara and 2 (1/2 beef, 1/2 turkey) meatballs and a big green salad
Wednesday: A riff on Julie’s Easy Baked Chicken + roasted cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and onions, quinoa all over a bed of arugula
Thursday: Leftovers from Wednesday. SL plays in his volleyball league on Thursdays so I fly solo and usually don’t cook something new for just myself.
Friday: Burrito bowls – his with regular rice, hers with cauliflower/broccoli rice
Saturday: More curry! This time Shrimp Thai Green Curry via PaleOMG (minus lime leaves because my store doesn’t have them and the lemongrass because I am still not over my lemongrass overload from the honeymoon.)
Sunday: Spaghetti squash with my homemade marinara and 2 (1/2 beef, 1/2 turkey) meatballs with a big green salad (this is quickly coming one of my favorite meals)
Down 4.2 lbs.!
