The reasons why I workout now are drastically different from the reason why I worked out in college and after in the years just after college.
As a young (and dumb) undergrad, I worked out because I wanted a hot bod to flaunt around the UConn campus. I thought if I logged enough hours on the elliptical it would cancel out my heavy weekend drinking and poor-ish eating habits. Yeah, I was dumb.
As I aged, working out became far less about what I looked like on the outside and far more about how I felt on the inside.
Reasons Why I Workout
1 | Its my #1 hobby
Yes, working out is my hobby. It’s what I do in my free time. I love spending time searching for classes in the MindBody Online app and adding classes to my weekly agenda. I truly enjoy spending time working out and would choose a good sweat or yoga session over doing almost anything else.
2 | I love eating
So yes, working out is my #1 hobby but eating might be second. I love food. I love to spend nights out with my girlfriends enjoying nice meals and wine. I also really enjoy nights in with my husband eating pizza and drinking a hard cider.
In this season of my life, I am not working out to achieve a certain body type and I am not currently training for a big race, I am working out so I can enjoy food (and drinks) guilt free.
3 | I hate being stressed
I am not one to stress out often. In fact, I tend to always be the least stressed person I know. I attribute a big part of this to a consistent workout schedule. A good run or a calming yoga class always puts my head in a great space.
When I was in grad school I tried my best to workout but between commuting into the city, working full time, taking a full course load and completing all of my homework and projects, it didn’t always happen. This was also the most stressed out time in my life.

4 | I love feeling accomplished
Is there anything that beats completing a particularly challenging studio class or finishing a long run? Nope.
Riding that high of feeling accomplished helps me power through the day after a morning working out. If I work out at night, I feel like I have closed out my day on the highest note possible.
5 | Workout clothes are way comfier than regular clothes
Yeah, I said it. And yes, leggings are pants and anyone who says otherwise is foolish.
Confession: I have more outfits for the gym than I do for the office.
Workout clothes are so comfy and come in so many fun styles and colors these days which begs the question: Do I buy comfy clothes to workout or do I workout to buy comfy clothes?5 reasons why I work out (spoiler: not for a hot bod) Click To Tweet
