To celebrate Global Running Day, I am checking in today with a half marathon training update.
Week 6 was a tough week. My grandmother was hospitalized and passed away. We were very close and I am still having a hard to processing everything. That said, I really wanted to run last week. All three of my runs, especially my long run, felt great.
Monday: REST. The weather on the Memorial Day holiday wasn’t great and I wasn’t up for a treadmill run so I took an admittedly lazy rest day.
Tuesday: 4 miles on the treadmill
Thursday: 3 miles with SL. It was hot out on Thursday night. Probably the hottest weather I’ve run in this year.
SL said he would run with my if we went to wing night after. I love a good bribe and happily agreed.
Friday: 30-minute cycle class. I’ve been loving these short indoor cycle classes. Its nice to be in and out and still feel like I got a good workout it.
Saturday: 7.5 (much needed) miles
This was my longest run in 3 years and it felt surprisingly great. I ate a Clif Blok right as I was approaching mile 6. To be honest, I cried twice during this run solely for personal reasons – not because the run was hard. I thought this might have slowed my pace down but it really didn’t.
Here are my splits:
Mile 1 – 8:53
Mile 2 – 8:38
Mile 3 – 8:51
Mile 4 – 8:28
Mile 5 – 9:02
Mile 6 – 9:27 (boring stretch…)
Mile 7 – 9:19
Last .51 miles – 9:07
Despite the boring stretch, I really enjoyed running this route. It’s close to my house so I can certainly run it on my own after my run club runs are over for the season.
What was my post run meal you ask? Oh, you didn’t ask?! I’m going to tell you anyways. It was this epic Five Guys burger with bacon, grilled mushrooms and onions, pickles and jalapeños. I devoured it and couldn’t have been happier about it.
Total weekly miles: 14.5 miles and all of them felt great.
Our plan for week 7 calls for a shorter long run and I am scheduled to run a 5k on Sunday and I’m hoping to squeeze in an Orangetheory class at some point. Week 7 will be off due to family things and I am ok with that. I love running but I love my family more.
Have a great Wednesday! Linking up with Wild Workout Wednesday!
