Ahh – less than month until this half marathon. I had my first really hot run during week 7 and it was an eye opener. Hopefully race day isn’t too hot but seeing that it is in July, you never know! It could be 60 (perfect!) or it could be 90 (unbearable).
As much as I would love to PR in this summer half marathon, I think my runs will be slowing down as the temperature keeps rising. Getting a PR is not worth passing out, getting sick or dying. It’s just not.
That said, I had a slow week 7 with only two runs but plenty of cycle classes.
Monday: 30-minute cycle class
Tuesday: REST. Tuesday was my grandmother’s funeral and family time beats workout time every single day.
Wednesday: 45-minute cycle class
Thursday: 2.6 mile run on the treadmill + Core, Buns & Guns
Friday: 30-minute cycle class
Saturday: 4.06 mile run
My splits –
Mile 1 – 8:30 min/mile
Mile 2 – 8:30 min/mile
Mile 3 – 8:49 min/mile
Mile 4 – 9:05 min/mile
Last little bit – 8:12 min/mile
Total: 4.06 miles // 35:22 minutes // 8:43 min/mile average pace
This was a nice little loop but the last mile was so hot and so boring. I am not surprised that me time slowed down. My run club coach is away this week and we have a 8.5 mile run planned. I might go off on my own and run through my hometown on one of the loops I ran while training for the Twin Lobster Half Marathon.
What went well this week
I finally made it back to a Core, Buns & Guns class. It had been forever and I really missed it. My favorite CB&G instructor was back in town and class was amazing.
What didn’t go well this week
Mileage didn’t go well. Yes, this was a taper week but I only got in one run outside of my run club run. This was a hard week emotionally so I am not going to beat myself up over it. I also didn’t make it to Orangetheory again this week. I am really hoping to get back on the OTF bandwagon this week.
